Fallout

This is a very obscure question, and most likely no one here will be able to answer me. But I've been trying to find this for at least four years!

The introduction of a game called 'Fallout', by Black Isle, features a beautiful jazz-age-style song - the title and singer of which I do not know. He's got a wonderful crisp, tenor voice.

The lyrics I can recall:

"Someday, you'll think of me / when you are all alone. / Someday, you'll sit and sigh..."

That's it. I suppose I could always play the game again. ;) The song isn't mentioned anywhere in the credits, and Black Isle has been unresponsive.

Little help?

Jared, I'm so excited that I can end your 4-year quest for the truth!!!

That song is called "Maybe" by The Inkspots -- it was #2 on the charts in 1940 (...don't ask me how these bizarre trivial facts end up in my brain!).

    Here are the complete lyrics:

Maybe you'll think of me when you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue, then what will you do?

Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
    And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

...I'm more familiar with Fallout 2, which opens with that nice Louis Armstrong song "A Kiss to Build a Dream On".

      :)

My favorite Inkspots song is "We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me)".

I also like that one that goes "I don't want to set the world on fire / I just want to set a flame in your heart..." (Baloonhedz, I bet you'd like that one).

Thank you so much! Now maybe I can sleep at night.

If you ever need a useless piece of information in the future, just ask!

    And I'm an idiot.

I bought a generic Ella Fitzgerald CD in the Camden market area of London several years ago, and fell in love with 'Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall' and 'That's the Way It Is'. The CD didn't have liner notes, and of course I never made the connection between these songs and 'Maybe'. Phhhbbt.

I really should've known about the Inkspots. Obviously, though I love this period in history, I know very little about it. Can anyone recommend a good book?

I'm not too surprised that the Inkspots were on at the forefront of your mind -- I've noticed that they're as well remembered as many of the other singing groups of that time. Maybe if companies like Black Isle who use their music would list them in their credits, they would be better known these days!

The complete tune is sounds at the end of the game, while the credits are shown :)
The beginning of the song reminds me one that appeared in the film "Three amigos!", while sitting and eating beyond a lumber fire... a song that says something like "Blue shadow"...
